When you want to get rid of any kind of addiction you refer to a doctor for help who can help you rehabilitate and overcome such problems. The treatment is of two kinds the first is called outpatient treatment (OP) and the second is known as the intensive outpatient program (IOP). The rehabilitation centers mostly refer you the more suitable treatment to get rid of a harmful habit but talking about your convenience and considerations below are five most important things you need to consider while choosing between OP and IOP.

Conveyance Issues

As IOP requires you to visit the consultant on a regular basis and attend sessions there so if you do not own a mode of conveyance or if it is not possible to go by bus or any other mode of public transport then you should opt for OP. This is also contingent on the location of rehabilitation centre if it is located too far away from your place of residence even IOP is not a good option while on the other hand if the centre is in your vicinity you should opt for IOP.

Addiction Period

If one has been using drugs or similar harmful substances for a longer period then he or she definitely needs proper treatment and good care which is only possible with IOP which offers double the number of sessions and more regular treatments. Thus, if the client has been using such substances for a shorter period and wants to quit them at an earlier stage then OP is also suitable for him.

Type of Addiction

If the person is suffering from some serious type of addiction that is if he or she is addicted to hash or cocaine it will require intense treatment and thus the more suitable type of treatment for such as individual will be IOP as they will require more sessions and more motivation whereas on the other hand if the person is suffering from an eating disorder then he may be referred to outpatient treatment as he does not need to take a lot of sessions.

Availability of Home

If the person who needs to overcome a harmful habit lives in his own apartment and has ample space for carrying out sessions in his own house then he definitely needs to opt for OP treatment as it is more convenient for him while on the other hand if the individual lives with a group of friends and does not have enough space to carry out the treatment then he should be opting for IOP as this way he can attend the sessions at the centre as well.

Condition of Client

Lastly, one also needs to keep in mind that if the client is able to visit the centre that often or not if travelling is an issue for the client given the seriousness of his condition then he should be advised to for OP as IOP won’t be suitable for such a client.
